About centrifugal pump gaskets
All types of centrifugal pumps require high-quality gaskets for proper sealing. It’s important to use the right gasket material for your pump based on its design and application, especially if specific chemical or thermal resistance is required. A gasket is a type of static seal, which means there is no movement at the juncture being sealed. O-rings are another type of static seal.
Centrifugal pump impellers are designed to reduce leakage with features like balance holes and vanes on the back of the impeller, but these methods will not completely eliminate the pressure of fluid wanting to escape the pump casing. Mechanical seals are also necessary to prevent leakage.
